ABOUT THE EASTERN SHORE BIRD CLUB

The Eastern Shore Bird Club recently merged with Birding Eastern Shore/Eastern Shore of Virginia Birding and Wildlife Programs, Inc. We do not require payment of membership dues to participate in the Eastern Shore Bird Club. To join the mailing list for Bird Club activities, please send an email to info@birdingeasternshore.org. Activity schedules will be posted on this page and updated when necessary.

UPDATE: Chincoteague NWR Field Trip on March 9, 2024 IS CANCELED!

UPDATE: Birding on the Deck is changed to Monday, April 22, 2024 because the Island House will be closed on Tuesday, April 23.

UPDATE: Leaders for the May 11 field trip to Island Trail, Chincoteague, have been changed to Joanne Laskowski and Maggie Long.

Winter/Spring 2024 Field Trip and Program Schedule

Free Programs start at 5:30 p.m. in Room 147/148 of the Academic Building at Eastern Shore Community College, 29316 Lankford Highway, Melfa. Arrive at 5:00 p.m. to socialize; brief business meeting follows presentation. There will be one program in Fall and one in Spring

 Field Trips - Contact leader for reservations, details, and any questions.

                     Always be prepared for ticks, mosquitoes, and the weather!

 

Mar. 9 Field Trip:                Chincoteague Waterfowl & More, Chincoteague Nat. Wildlife Refuge, VA 

Saturday, 2:00 p.m.                   Caravan from Queen’s Sound Landing to Wildlife Loop and Woodland Trail to see an

-        Sunset (opt.)           amazing array of birdlife, perhaps even the American Woodcock!      

                                                  Entrance Fee or Park Pass required.

March 19 Field Trip:          Meriwether’s Seaview, 23039 Rose Cottage Road, Melfa, VA

Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.                   Explore diverse habitats protected by conservation easement to see a wide variety of birds.                                              Leaders:  Meriwether Payne 757-710-2454 and Joanne Laskowski

 

Apr.9 Program:                   TNC’s Bird Conservation Projects on the Eastern Shore

Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.                   The Nature Conservancy (TNC) staff will provide updates on its latest projects on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, including monitoring shorebirds and habitat restoration studies. Meet at 5:00 pm for social time; Room 147/148 of the Academic Building at the Eastern Shore Community College. 

Apr. 22 Field Trip:           Bay Creek Nature Preserve Bird Walk, Bay Creek Parkway, Cape Charles, VA

Monday, 9:00 a.m.                    A walk along the trail on the north side of Plantation Creek. Identify early spring

warblers and migrants of bottomland swamps. Restricted Access/Limited to 15 Participants. Registration Required by 4/15/2024

April 22 Activity:                Birding on the Deck, Island House Restaurant, Wachapreague, VA

Monday, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.          Join us for a relaxed evening of birding and socializing while enjoying the scenery.

                                                No experience necessary. Dinner and/or drinks at your option.

Tuesday, 8:00 a.m.                   Identify spring warblers and migrants of bottomland swamps

May 11 Field Trip:             Island Nature Trail, Chincoteague, VA 6032-6048 Hallie Whealton Smith Dr.

Saturday, 9:00 a.m.                   Visit a local eBird Hotspot, a good place to find migrating spring warblers.

Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.    Get an amazingly close look at seabirds and shorebirds from the water!    

            11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.       $20/Limited to 6 Participants/Time Slot. Registration Required by 5/14/2024
